I’ve been studying and posting every day on my Facebook page, maybe you’ve been joining me. I am so excited about what I am seeing in Acts.
But I have also been very convicted.
There’s a Fancy Word for Almost Everything
When you want to talk all fancy… “Angry” becomes apoplectic.
“Daily” becomes quotidian.
“Unfinished” suddenly sounds impressive when you call it inchoate.
Fancy words wrap plain words in a little sparkle.
And I get it — the right word can make a sentence sing.
I love reading masters like Charles Swindoll and Jack Hayford.
They sculpt sentences the way artists shape marble.
I slow down when I read them, savoring every luscious word.
But here’s the thing…
Fancy Words Can Intimidate Us
Sometimes strange words stop us instead of helping us.
And that’s exactly what happens with one particular word:
Witnessing.
Calm down —
I felt you tense up all the way from my house.
I’m not sending you to a street corner with a megaphone.
Maybe you’re like my friend Jim Edwards — he’s basically the Superman of witnessing.
The rest of us?
We get sweaty palms just thinking about it.
But here’s the truth…
You Already Know How to Share Good News
If you asked me to share my favorite recipe, I wouldn’t panic.
If I found a fabulous bargain on something you need, I’d call you immediately.
Even if you hated the store where I found it, I’d still tell you.
Why?
1. It’s good news.
2. I know it would benefit you.
And Witnessing? Well,
it is simply Sharing Jesus
Just… Sharing
Not performing.
Not preaching.
Not memorizing a script.
Simply sharing good news with someone you care about.
Jesus is the best news of all:
- His saving power is good news.
- His love is good news.
- His healing is good news.
- His grace is good news.
Jesus is simply too good not to share.
One Wednesday night,
my pastor shared a story about Oliver Cromwell.
In the 1600s, England ran out of silver for coins. After searching everywhere, officials reported:
“We found no silver except in the cathedrals, where the statues of the saints are made of choice silver.”
Cromwell replied:
“Then melt down the saints and put them into circulation.”
What a word for then — and for now.
Christian’s it is time to get back in circulation!
Oh Father, help us…
if we’ve grown unproductive…
if we’re frozen in complacency… if we’ve settled into comfort instead of walking in Your commission —
thaw us. Wake us.
Send us.
Opps! He already did!
He’s already told us who we are:
“Matthew 5:14
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.“
Light is meant to shine.
Disciples are meant to go.
So Lord, melt us — and help us get back into circulation again, carrying Your hope into a world dying without Christ.
Because the best news in the world was never meant to be kept quiet.
