I met Bill Gray several years ago, probably over 20, but I had not met his wife Cheryl. When we would drive through downtown Mobile to visit relatives I would always pray over Metro Ministries and wonder how Bill was doing. But this past weekend I had the privilege of meeting Cheryl at the Women’s Conference in Springville, AL.
After my workshop, I learned we shared a passion to see people walk in the fullness of all God has for them. We exchanged books and promised to chat again. I came home with a head cold so I dove into her book quicker than I normally would. Since I had the head cold, the box of tissues was nearby, and I sure needed them. Her book, Life is like a Rose, touched my heart. The allegory of the stages of a rose and life was right down my alley. And if you know me, you know how much I love a good story, especially when it is true. Several of the people in the book are people I know, but I didn’t know their story!
Cheryl and Bill Gray are front line agents of change in an inner city culture. I’m convinced that God wants all of us to be agents of change regardless of who we are or what we’ve been through. Again and again Cheryl helped me see the Rose of Sharon was present in the midst of the storm.
