Ministry Isn’t For Armadillos Download
Scurrying to hide.
Rolling into a tight ball, exposing only the bony armor are defensive behaviors of an armadillo. Protecting him from a predator. It works most of the time. If you live in the south, you’ve seen the road kill evidence that a car is no match for the armadillo’s protective armor.
But what do you do when you’ve been offended?
How do you protect yourself? Roll into a ball and vow, they’ll never hurt me again? Hide? I’ve seen folks do it. And when I looked in the mirror, I’ve realized there have been occasions when I was that person hiding, trying to protect my heart and my ego from another ruthless attack. But it’s not an effective strategy for dealing with being offended. It just perpetuates the pain.
I’ve discovered if you’re in ministry, you’re going to have plenty of opportunities to be offended. And part of being a leader is the challenge of dealing with being done wrong. Too often leaders become offended. Offense can cause you to act like an armadillo instead of the leader God intended.
