John 15: 7 BSB is a powerful verse. “If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
A Great Promise
If we want the last part of John 15:7, the part that says, “and it will be done for you” then we need to do the first part of the verse. I don’t know about you, but I got some big things I’m asking for, so I want to understand what I need to do to see these request answered.
Remain in Jesus
When my granddaughter was little, she found a flower outside, picked it and brought it to me. I thanked her and she laid it on the counter, then went back outside. Later, she came back to find it had wilted.
When she found the wilted flower she commented, “Nana, look the flower is wilted. That flower is just like us. When we don’t read the Bible and pray, we wilt too!”
She was so right!!
Remain in Him
This is a relationship and a process.
…relationship with Him is loving, obeying and spending time with Him.
…two processes are prayer and Bible study.
When you find a verse this good, it’s worth chewing and savoring. Sorta like you savor a piece of delicious chocolate. You eat it slowly, enjoying the taste.
Do you ever eat in front of the TV?
When you do that do you even taste your food? (Sometimes I’ve cooked things that didn’t taste so good.) But when you have something luscious you need to eat it very slowly and really think about what you’re eating.
John 15:7 is a verse that ya gotta slow down and savor it.
I’ve learned the importance of digesting Scripture. We understand that only what our body digest nourishes our bodies. That is also true spiritually as well. If I don’t digest the Word of God it doesn’t nurture my spirit.
The Bible calls the Bible Living Bread for a reason.
I love bread. Now, please all you Keto diet folks, don’t hate me! My whole family loves bread!!! Let me tell you, just how much we love bread.
When we were packing to move to Jacksonville, bread machines came onto the market. My kids love homemade bread so they begged me to buy one. I’m tight with my money, so I explained they were already eating plenty of bread. Besides that, I probably wouldn’t use it anyway.
When they continued to ask for a bread machine, I made a deal with them. If they helped us make the move without complaining, then I would buy a bread machine.
Well, they did and I did.
I was totally wrong about not using that bread machine. I made bread almost every day. Sometimes several times in one day.
But another thing happened.
It turned us into monsters. No one wanted to eat cold bread. We all wanted the fresh, hot bread that produced a fragrance that filled the house.
When the bread machine bell signaled that the bread was ready, we all rushed into the kitchen. No one wanted to wait to get to the table. We sliced it in the kitchen and gobbled a slice on our way to the table.
I shared that story, because it so important that you remember
God has fresh bread for you!
Fresh revelation. Even from verses like John 15:7 that is very familiar to you!
Fresh answers for you in your situation.
New secrets to share.
His Word is powerful.
I don’t understand how God’s Word nourishes our spirits any better than I understand how roast beef and hot fresh bread nourishes our body, but it does.
His Word changes our attitudes.
I don’t have to tell my husband that I haven’t had time to pray or that I haven’t been in the Word…he can tell.
Verses like John 15:7 build my faith and expectancy that is a great way to change your attitude.
I’ve had to make it a priority.
Read Scripture with your friend Precious Holy Spirit.
He wants to show you stuff in the Bible that you need to hear.
Reading Scripture gives you peace.
But I also know that when we remain in God’s Love it calms our emotions.
Don’t misunderstand me.
If you’ve listened to my 21 Day Think God’s Way, you know that emotions don’t have a driver’s license to drive your emotions.
We all could use some of that these days.
